ABOUT MONOCOUCHE RENDERS
Monocouche is a modern rendering technique that involves applying a single layer of render to your walls, hence the name "Monocouche" which translates to "single layer" in French. Depending on the substrate, this method not only saves time but also reduces costs by eliminating the need for multiple coats. Block work for example can receive Monocouche render without any base coats or solutions to help adhesion.
Other names for Monocouche are K-Render, through coloured render, and scratch render. Although there are a few ways to finish Monocouche, the most common is to apply the material slightly too thick and, once it sets firm but before it is solid, the material is scrapped and scratched back to the correct depth.
Made from a mixture of cement, sand, and additives, monocouche offers exceptional adhesion and breathability, effectively preventing moisture buildup. Available in a wide range of standard colours Monocouche is renowned for its low maintenance requirements and resistance to cracking. Monocouche is an ideal solution for both residential and commercial properties. With its modern finish and robust durability, monocouche provides a professional look that will last for decades.
In short, I don't believe there is anything wrong with traditional renders like Sand & cement and lime render. In fact, for many years this was all we used and it has served the construction industry well.
However, modern renders offer some exciting benefits! They’re stronger, more durable, and come with at least a 10-year warranty. Plus, you can choose from a wide range of colours and enjoy better protection against the weather.
That’s why countries like Germany and Poland have been using these materials for decades. Choosing modern renders means getting a great look and long-lasting quality for your projects!
